Chin Filler in Miami: Enhancing Profile Balance

Chin filler radiant look

Turn sideways to a mirror and look at your face in profile. Picture a line dropping straight down from your lips. For a lot of people, the chin sits a little behind that line, and once you notice it, it’s hard to stop noticing.

At Lumea Med Spa, we hear this concern all the time, and it rarely comes up the way you’d expect. Clients don’t walk in asking for a bigger chin. They say their nose looks large in photos, or the area under their jaw looks soft, or their face looks a bit off from the side and they can’t say why. Often the answer sits at the bottom of the face.

This guide covers how a recessed chin affects your profile, how chin filler in Miami works, which fillers the FDA has approved for the area, and what the appointment is really like. We also cover who’s a good fit, who should look at other options, and how to pick an injector who treats this area with care.

Why the Chin Shapes Your Whole Profile

The chin is the anchor of the lower face. A review of lower face filler techniques published through the National Library of Medicine lists the chin alongside the eyes, nose, lips, and neck as one of the features whose proportions make a face look harmonious. The same review notes that a small or recessed chin from birth may contribute to jawline definition fading earlier than it otherwise would. You can read it on PubMed Central.

Think of it like a picture frame. When one corner sits back, the whole frame looks slightly crooked. A chin that falls behind the lips can make the nose seem more prominent and the lower face look shorter or softer than it really is. Nothing else about your features has to change for the balance to shift.

That’s why profile balance has little to do with making one feature bigger. What matters is how your features sit in relation to each other.

Research points the same way. A 2025 randomized study in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology treated the chin along with the lines running down from the mouth. Investigators rated every patient in both treatment groups as having improved facial harmony at week 9. The authors include researchers affiliated with the filler’s manufacturer, so we read it as encouraging and not final.

What a Recessed Chin Actually Looks Like

Doctors use the term chin retrusion. You’ll see it in FDA paperwork too, usually as “mild to moderate chin retrusion.” In plain terms, the front of the chin sits farther back than the lower lip, or the line from lip to neck looks short and flat instead of defined.

Some people are born with it. Others notice it more over the years as the lower face loses structure. Neither group did anything wrong, and neither needs to fix it. But if the way your profile looks bothers you in photos or video calls, it’s a reasonable thing to explore.

Here’s the honest limit. Filler works well for mild to moderate retrusion. A chin that’s far behind the rest of the face, or a bite that doesn’t line up, is a different problem. Those cases belong with a surgeon or an orthodontist, and we’ll tell you so during a consultation instead of selling you something that won’t get you there.

How Chin Filler Works

Chin filler uses a gel made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar your body already makes and stores in skin and cartilage. The FDA explains that the body slowly absorbs this material, which is why the results aren’t permanent. You can read the agency’s overview on its dermal filler page.

For the chin, your injector places the gel deep, close to the bone. To build forward projection, the filler goes mainly into the front point of the chin, a spot called the pogonion. The lower face review mentioned above also describes adding height and width when the chin looks short or narrow. So filler can shape the chin in three directions, not just push it forward.

Because hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, it also gives you room to adjust. That’s a big part of why many people start here before considering anything permanent. Our dermal fillers page explains how we approach injectables across the face, including the jawline and chin.

What the FDA Has Approved for the Chin

Not every filler carries chin labeling. Two Restylane products do.

In February 2021, the FDA approved Restylane Defyne for augmenting and correcting mild to moderate chin retrusion in adults over 21. In its announcement, the manufacturer reported that 74 percent of trial participants showed improved chin projection for up to one year. You can read the Galderma announcement for the full numbers.

Then in November 2025, the FDA approved Restylane Lyft for the same use. At the 12 month mark in its main trial, 89 percent of patients and 95.4 percent of investigators reported continued improvement, based on the company’s press release. The product was well tolerated, and no unexpected or serious adverse events were tied to it.

One note on those numbers. They come from the manufacturer, so treat them as a useful signal and not a promise. Providers also use other hyaluronic acid fillers in the chin based on their training and judgment, so it’s fair to ask which product your injector plans to use and why.

How We Decide How Much Projection Is Right

Good chin work starts with measuring, not guessing. The lower face review gives some starting points that injectors use. In women, the lower lip usually sits about 1 to 2 millimeters beyond the chin. In men, the chin tends to project about as far as the lower lip. Chin width follows a pattern too. In women it often matches the distance between the inner corners of the eyes, and in men it tends to match the width of the mouth.

These are starting points and not rules. Faces aren’t math problems, and a chin that fits a chart can still look wrong on you. What matters is how your chin works with your nose, lips, jawline, and neck.

That’s why a consultation at Lumea includes a careful look at your profile from the side, plus photos for documentation. If you have older pictures where you like how your face looked, bring a few. They tell your injector more than a celebrity photo ever will.

Chin Filler and the Rest of Your Face

Nose and chin

Your nose and chin are read together. A prominent nose looks larger when the chin sits back, and a more balanced chin can make the nose look more in proportion without any change to the nose itself. If the nose is a concern too, our guide to non-surgical rhinoplasty explains what filler can and can’t do there. Some clients treat both areas in one plan.

Cheeks and midface

The cheeks frame the top of the lower face and the chin anchors the bottom. When the midface has lost volume, the lower face can look heavier by comparison, even if the chin hasn’t changed. Our post on cheek filler in Miami covers how restoring that volume works, and why a good plan looks at the whole face and not one spot.

Human face outline

Jawline and jaw width

If your jaw looks wide or square from the front, that’s a different question. The muscle on the side of the jaw can be the cause, and Botox can soften it. Our guide to masseter Botox in Miami walks through how that works.

What the Appointment Is Like

A chin filler visit is straightforward. Most filler appointments at Lumea take about 30 to 60 minutes from start to finish, including the consultation and prep.

First comes the assessment. We look at your face from the front and the side, talk through what you want, and map the treatment area. Then we apply numbing cream. Many fillers also contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that makes the injections more comfortable.

Med Spa Treatment Room

The chin can feel more sensitive than the cheeks. The lower face review explains that nerves run through this area, which is why injections here can sting more. Most clients describe pressure and a quick pinch, not real pain.

Your injector adds filler in small amounts and checks your profile as they go. We’d rather build the shape slowly than overshoot. You’ll see a change right away, but the final look settles in over about 7 to 10 days once any swelling goes down.

Recovery and Side Effects

Downtime is minimal. Most clients go back to normal plans the same day. Mild swelling and tenderness for 24 to 72 hours are normal, and we usually suggest skipping hard workouts for a day or two.

Common side effects reported in the Restylane Lyft chin trial included bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness, itching, and small lumps. Those are the kinds of things most people expect to see and they usually fade on their own.

Serious problems are rare, but they exist. The same safety information lists delayed infection, tissue damage from blocked blood flow, and scarring. The chin has its own arteries, so anatomy knowledge matters here. This is one place where an experienced injector earns their fee. Tell your provider about any blood thinners you take before treatment, since those raise bruising risk.

How Long Chin Filler Lasts

The FDA says hyaluronic acid fillers last roughly 6 to 12 months. Cleveland Clinic gives a similar range for jawline fillers, from six months to a year, and sometimes up to two years. It also suggests repeat treatments every 6 to 18 months to keep the result. You can read that in its jawline filler guide.

Where you land depends on your metabolism, how much product we use, and which filler goes in. Most clients plan for a touch up about once a year. Some prefer to refresh sooner and some can stretch it longer. We’ll talk through a schedule that fits you at your first visit.

Chin Filler Cost in Miami

Pricing at Lumea is simple. Our dermal fillers page lists $650 for a full syringe and $350 for a half syringe. How many syringes your chin needs depends on your anatomy and what you’re hoping to change, and we won’t guess before we’ve seen you in person.

Ask any provider you’re considering for the full price up front, including the product they plan to use. A low quote that doesn’t name the filler is a red flag. The FDA has warned that unapproved versions of some filler brands are being sold in the U.S., and those products can’t be assured safe or effective.

Who’s a Good Candidate and Who Should Wait

The FDA approvals for chin cover adults over 21 with mild to moderate retrusion. Beyond that, a few conditions matter.

Filler isn’t right if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have a bleeding disorder, or have a history of severe allergies to filler ingredients. An active skin infection near the chin means you’ll need to wait until it clears. We go over your full medical history before any injection, not after.

If you want a permanent change or have a more significant retrusion, a chin implant or jaw surgery may fit better. A board certified facial plastic surgeon can walk you through those. We’re glad to point you in that direction when it’s the right call, because the goal is a result you’re happy with, not a sale.

How to Choose a Chin Filler Injector in Miami

Miami has no shortage of options, which makes the choice harder, not easier. Look for a licensed provider who can explain the anatomy of the chin without reading from a script. Ask what product they use, how many chin treatments they do in a month, and what they do if something goes wrong. A good answer includes keeping hyaluronidase on hand.

Pay attention to how they talk about your face. A provider who starts the visit with a syringe in hand and no questions is running a routine. You want someone who asks what you see in the mirror and then shows you what’s realistic.

Ask about the plan for the first visit too. Conservative first sessions followed by a check in are common and usually give the most natural result. It’s easier to add than to take away.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chin Filler

Does chin filler hurt?

Most clients describe a quick pinch and some pressure. Numbing cream is used first, and many fillers contain lidocaine. The chin can be a bit more sensitive than other areas, but the discomfort is brief.

How long does chin filler last?

Hyaluronic acid filler in the chin generally lasts around 6 to 12 months, and some people see results for longer. Your metabolism and the amount of product used both play a part.

Will chin filler change how my face looks from the front?

Mostly it changes your side profile. You may see a slightly longer or more defined chin from the front too, but a careful injector keeps those changes subtle so the face still looks like yours.

Can chin filler replace a chin implant?

For mild to moderate retrusion, filler can be a good non-surgical option. A significant retrusion or a bite problem often needs surgery or orthodontic care, and we’ll tell you honestly which group you fall into.

Can chin filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be broken down with hyaluronidase if you want to adjust the result or if a problem comes up. That reversibility is one reason many people choose it.
